Kate Cassidy, the late Liam Payne’s girlfriend, has publicly expressed her grief following the singer’s untimely death in October 2024. In heartfelt messages shared on Instagram, Cassidy described Payne as her “best friend” and “the love of my life,” revealing that they had plans to marry within a year. She shared a note from Payne that read, “Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444,” underscoring their deep bond and future aspirations .
Despite their close relationship, Payne died without a will, resulting in his entire $32.2 million estate being inherited by his 8-year-old son, Bear, whom he shared with former partner Cheryl Tweedy. Under UK law, when an individual dies intestate (without a will), their estate typically passes to their children, leaving Cassidy without any legal claim to his assets .
Cassidy, who reportedly received a monthly allowance from Payne and had access to his credit cards, has not indicated any intention to contest the inheritance. Instead, she has chosen to focus on preserving his memory, stating, “I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go” .
Following Payne’s death, Cassidy has returned to the United States, moving back to her hometown in New Jersey to be with her family .
