Three Government Officials Shot at John Glenn Columbus International Airport

Columbus, OH – May 18, 2025

In a shocking and violent incident early Sunday morning, three government officials were shot at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, sending waves of concern through the state and prompting heightened security at transportation hubs nationwide.

According to Columbus Police, the shooting occurred shortly before 9 a.m. near the baggage claim area of Terminal B. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and seeing people running for cover. Emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes and secured the area.

The three victims, identified as mid-level officials from a federal agency, were rushed to Grant Medical Center. Two are reported to be in stable condition, while the third is in critical but stable condition following surgery. Authorities have not released their names pending notification of family members.

The suspect, a 42-year-old male whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was apprehended on the scene without incident. Authorities say he was carrying a legally owned firearm but have not confirmed a motive. Initial reports suggest the shooting may have been targeted, but investigators are also exploring the possibility of a personal or political grievance.

“This is a deeply disturbing event,” said Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther in a press briefing. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. We are cooperating fully with federal authorities to get to the bottom of what happened.”

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security have joined the investigation, citing the involvement of federal officials. Airport operations were briefly suspended but have since resumed under heightened security protocols.

Travelers are being advised to expect delays and increased law enforcement presence throughout the airport.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recorded video footage to contact Columbus Police immediately.

More updates will follow as the investigation continues.
