The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. near Terminal 1, where the officials were reportedly en route to board an international flight. Peel Regional Police confirmed that gunfire erupted in a secured area of the terminal, causing chaos as passengers and staff scrambled for safety.
Emergency services quickly arrived on scene, and the victims—whose identities have not yet been publicly released—were transported to nearby hospitals. Two of the officials are said to be in critical condition, while the third is in stable condition. Authorities have not commented on the motive behind the attack but stated that it appeared to be a “deliberate and isolated act.”
The airport was placed under temporary lockdown, with several flights delayed or diverted. By midday, security had been restored, and operations gradually resumed, although heightened security measures remained in place.
Public Safety Minister Shalene Grant issued a brief statement expressing deep concern and calling for a full investigation. “This act of violence against public servants is unacceptable and deeply troubling. We are working closely with law enforcement to understand who is responsible and why,” she said.
The RCMP and Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) are assisting with the investigation, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to identify suspects. No arrests have been made as of yet.
Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and prepare for additional screening measures in the coming days as officials continue their inquiry into what is now being called one of the most serious security breaches in recent Canadian history.
