Breaking News: Three Government Officials Shot at Wasilla Airport (WWA)

Wasilla, Alaska – May 16, 2025

A shocking act of violence unfolded this morning at Wasilla Airport (WWA) as three government officials were shot near a restricted access zone, triggering a swift and ongoing investigation.

According to preliminary reports from Alaska State Troopers, the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. local time when an unidentified gunman opened fire on a group of officials exiting a private charter flight. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire rang out across the tarmac, sending travelers and airport staff scrambling for cover.

The victims, whose identities have not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin, are believed to be part of a visiting federal delegation. All three sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Hospital officials have confirmed that two are in critical condition while the third is stable.

Airport operations were suspended for over three hours as local law enforcement, in coordination with federal agencies, secured the scene and launched a manhunt. A suspect has not yet been apprehended. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses in hopes of identifying the shooter and establishing a motive.

Governor Mike Dunleavy issued a statement condemning the attack: “This is a tragic and unacceptable act of violence. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we will ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”

Security has been heightened at airports statewide as a precautionary measure.

Wasilla Airport is expected to resume limited operations later today. The FBI has joined the investigation, treating the shooting as a potential targeted attack on federal personnel.

More updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
