Tampa, FL – May 24, 2025:
A massive fire broke out late Saturday evening at Tampa’s largest and most popular restaurant, engulfing the building in flames and resulting in multiple fatalities. The blaze erupted at approximately 8:45 p.m. at the historic Grand Palms Grill, located in the heart of downtown Tampa.
According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the fire quickly spread through the multi-level structure, fueled by interior furnishings and kitchen materials. Despite rapid response from emergency crews, the intensity of the fire overwhelmed initial containment efforts. Thick black smoke billowed across the city skyline as hundreds of diners and staff attempted to flee.
Authorities have confirmed that at least five people were killed in the incident, with several others hospitalized in critical condition due to severe burns and smoke inhalation. The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending family notifications.
“We are devastated by this tragedy,” said Tampa Fire Chief Luis Ramirez. “Our firefighters are working tirelessly to extinguish the flames and search for any possible survivors.”
Witnesses described chaotic scenes as patrons rushed to escape the flames, with some breaking windows to get out. “It was like something out of a nightmare,” said local resident Angela Lopez, who was dining at the restaurant when the fire started. “We could barely see. People were screaming, running, trying to help others out.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but early reports suggest it may have started in the main kitchen area. Officials say they are not ruling out any possibilities, including electrical faults or a gas leak.
The Grand Palms Grill, which opened in 1998, was renowned for its upscale menu and frequent celebrity guests. The restaurant has been a cultural and culinary landmark in Tampa for over two decades.
More updates will follow as the investigation continues.
