The track, initially released on March 1, 2024, as the lead single from a then-planned second studio album, has resonated deeply with fans in the wake of his death.

‘Teardrops’, co-written by Payne, JC Chasez, and Jamie Scott, was Payne’s first solo release in three years. Upon its initial release, the single debuted at number 44 on the UK Singles Downloads Chart and later entered the main UK Singles Chart at number 85 in late October 2024.

However, the emotional impact of Payne’s untimely death at the age of 31 led to a significant resurgence in the song’s popularity.
