The University of Minnesota is doubling down on stability and vision, announcing today that head football coach P.J. Fleck has been extended through the 2030 season.
Fleck, who took over the Gophers program in 2017, has become one of the most recognizable and energetic figures in college football. Known for his “Row the Boat” mantra and culture-driven approach, Fleck has guided Minnesota to some of its most successful seasons in recent history — including an 11-win campaign in 2019 and four bowl victories during his tenure.
Athletic Director Mark Coyle:
“Coach Fleck has built a strong, values-based program that develops student-athletes on and off the field. We believe in his vision, and this extension reflects that commitment.”

While full financial terms have not been disclosed, the extension is expected to include increased compensation and incentives tied to performance benchmarks, including Big Ten championships and New Year’s Six bowl appearances.
Fleck previously signed an extension in 2022 that ran through 2029. This new deal adds another year and reinforces Minnesota’s belief in his leadership as the Big Ten undergoes a seismic shift with incoming powerhouses like Oregon, USC, Washington, and UCLA.
