May 20, 2025 | North Carolina — A tragic construction site accident in North Carolina claimed the lives of three workers on Tuesday morning when a partially completed building suddenly collapsed.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. at a commercial development site in the town of Cary, located just west of Raleigh. According to local authorities, the structure, which was in the framing stage, gave way without warning, trapping several workers under heavy debris.
Emergency crews responded quickly, with firefighters, paramedics, and rescue teams rushing to the scene. Despite rapid efforts, three workers were pronounced dead at the site. Two other workers were rescued and transported to nearby WakeMed Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“We are devastated by the loss of life in this terrible accident,” said Cary Fire Chief Michael Andrews. “Our crews worked tirelessly in very dangerous conditions to recover the victims and secure the area.”
Officials have not yet released the names of the deceased, pending notification of their families.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Early reports suggest that structural instability during the construction process may have been a factor, but officials stressed that the investigation is ongoing.
The construction project, a multi-story office complex, was being developed by Triangle Property Group and managed by Apex Construction Services. Both companies issued brief statements expressing condolences and pledging full cooperation with the investigation.
The site has been closed indefinitely, and local authorities have cordoned off the area as engineers assess the safety of nearby structures.
This marks one of the deadliest construction accidents in the state in recent years, prompting renewed calls for stronger safety enforcement and oversight across the industry. Local officials have scheduled a press briefing later today to provide further updates.
