The Bonhams auction will take place during the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix weekend, with the live event set for Saturday, May 3, 2025, after the qualifying session.
Among the standout items is a Shoei helmet worn by Michael Schumacher during his early career in 1991. This helmet is believed to have been used in his karting days and potentially even during his stint in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) that year. Interestingly, sponsor stickers were later added to the helmet to resemble the design of his helmet from his first full Formula 1 season with Benetton in 1992. This piece of history is estimated to fetch between £23,000 and £38,000 (approximately $30,000 – $50,000 USD). The helmet comes with its original karting visor and shows signs of wear from its use.
This auction follows a successful event last year during the same Miami Grand Prix weekend, where another race-worn Michael Schumacher helmet sold for an impressive $114,800 USD, significantly exceeding its pre-auction estimate.
